First United Reformed Church of Oak Lawn

Preparing for Corporate Worship  -  Sunday, October 05, 2025
Services at 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM

Dear Friends,
I pray you have had a safe week and are growing in the Lord.

MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE
On the Lord's Day we will come to 1 Kings, an amazing book chronicling the work of Christ through the reign of Solomon, followed by the first kings of the divided covenant kingdom. On our own we are divided (look at our government tussle), but in Christ, our congregation is one!

Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 1.28-31; 2.1-4; 3.4-15; 4.29-34; 6.1;11-13; 37-38; 8.1-5; 9.1-9; 10.6-9; 11.41-43; 14.7-11; 21-24; 16.29 – 17.6; 18.36-41; 19.15-18; 22.41-44; 51-53

 Text: 1 Kings 12.1-24

Message:  “Chronicles of Christ #11: 1 Kings”

Theme: The Lord reveals both the glory (His faithfulness) and grief (human sinfulness) in His kingdom

1. 1 Kings in its context

2. 1 Kings in its Christ-centered context

3. 1 Kings and its covenant applications

EVENING WORSHIP SERVICE

The evening sermon will focus on what we say, how we say it, and learning to put a zip tie on our tongue. Proverbs 12.17-22 and Lord's day 43 will provide plenty of incredibly important material for our instruction. I would humbly ask you again to not set aside attendance at the second worship service - let's gather to praise the Lord and feed on His Word
                                                                 -------------------------------------

Responsive Reading of Psalm 96.10-13
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 12.17-22

Catechism Reading: Lord’s Day 43

Text: Proverbs 12.17-23

Sermon: “The Proper Use of the Tongue”

Theme: The tongue of the servant of Christ must serve Christ

1. The activity of the tongue

2. The value of the tongue

3. The outcome of the tongue

             --------------------------------

Please pray that the Lord's day will be spiritually enriching to all of God's people.

“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against His Anointed One. ‘Let us break their
chains,’ they say, ‘and throw off their fetter.’ The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the LORD
scoffs at them.” Psalm 2.1-4
